Along route from Buffalo to Albany enjoy some of the finest scenery, most interesting history and unparalleled cycling in the northeastern United States. Learn from canal historians about the people places and things that made life along the Erie Canal so unique in its day and so important to the history of New York State and the country.
GREAT CYCLING! The 400 mile route includes both trail and on-road cycling. More than two thirds of the route is on completed portions of the Canalway Trail which will one day provide an uninterrupted 524 miles of trail. In the sections where the Canalway Trail has not yet been built, we will be traveling mostly on rural roads with good shoulders. For most days the route follows the canal along level ground. Several days have a few rolling hills and there are two long gradual climbs in the Mohawk Valley.
